Girl, 15, Killed, 2 Teen-Agers Wounded in Drive-By Shooting

A 15-year-old girl was killed and two teen-age friends wounded Friday night in a shooting by alleged gang members in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
De-Ann Gladden, 15, was struck by gunfire from a car occupied by four people, said Los Angeles Officer Jack Rinallo. Gladden was taken to California Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Rinallo said.
Carl McDade, 16, was also hit by gunfire during the shooting at the intersection of 38th Street and Budlong Avenue. He was taken to County-USC Medical Center, Lt. William Sweet said.
Emil Neal, 16, apparently was wounded during the incident, but walked to his home nearby before police arrived, Sweet said.
His family summoned paramedics and Neal was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
The shooting began after one of the occupants in the car shouted at Gladden and a small group gathered on the street corner.
“A statement made by the suspects identified them with a particular gang,” Sweet said.
Police said they had neither determined a motive nor identified suspects.
