The principal of a Pacoima elementary school was honored Saturday as “Woman of the Year” in the 39th Assembly District at a breakfast celebrating Women’s History Month in Woodland Hills.
Yvonne Chan, principal of Vaughn Street School, was recognized for her work toward improving education and the lives of her students and their families. Also honored was California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Alvarado, who earlier this year saved the life of a man trying to commit suicide by jumping from a freeway overpass.
The keynote speaker at the breakfast was Kathleen Brown, the recently elected state treasurer. The event was sponsored by Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar).
