Viola Lorene Holcomb, a 25-year volunteer for St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, has died at a Burbank hospital. She was 70.
A longtime resident of Burbank, Mrs. Holcomb died Friday of complications of multiple surgeries, her niece, Donna O’Neal, said.
Born in Missouri, she came to California as a teen-ager and graduated from Corona High School in Corona. She worked as a manager at Thrifty Drug Store in Glendale from the early 1960s to the early 1980s and volunteered at St. Joseph Medical Center from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s. Mrs. Holcomb was also a charter member of the Verdugo-Glen chapter of the American Business Women’s Assn.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, James L. Holcomb of Burbank, and a son, Bill Griffith of Glendale.
Visitation is planned from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills, which is handling the arrangements. A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn’s Church of the Hills.
