Westmont Advances by Beating Emporia

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Noel Matthews and Chris Hahs scored 16 points apiece Wednesday night as 16th-seeded Westmont of Montecito, Calif., held off Emporia State of Kansas, 65-55, in the first round of the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament.
Westmont meets top-seeded Wisconsin-Eau Claire today.
Westmont (22-9), making its fourth NAIA appearance in seven years, lost its two-point halftime lead early in the second half but recovered for a 44-38 margin it kept over the Hornets (18-14).
