AT&T; and NCR in Merger Talks: Representatives of American Telephone & Telegraph and NCR Corp. met in New York in an attempt to reach a negotiated settlement to AT&T;’s hostile takeover bid for NCR, sources close to the talks said. The two parties were believed to be discussing a friendly merger under which AT&T; would offer NCR shareholders more than its latest $100-per-share bid, possibly through a stock swap rather than cash. The two firms left the door open for additional sessions later this week. The negotiations come just three days before NCR shareholders are scheduled to vote on AT&T;’s offer.
