WORLD IN BRIEF : HAITI : Ex-President Jailed; Coup Role Alleged

Former President Ertha Pascal-Trouillot was jailed on charges of complicity in a failed January coup against her own interim government. Prosecutor Anthony Alouidor said on independent Radio Antilles that “we have enough in hand now to warrant her arrest” but did not specify the charges or indicate the basis for the government’s allegations. Pascal-Trouillot has said she was held for 10 hours at gunpoint during the Jan. 6 coup attempt, which was intended to keep President-elect Jean-Bertrand Aristide from taking office.
