Forget the Towels

The search for mementos goes on at the Beverly Hills Hotel, which, in anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2012, is asking for hotel-related items from its former guests and employees. So far, a former chambermaid has come up with a handwritten thank-you note from Elizabeth Taylor on hotel stationery. But some thought the call for souvenirs meant the dreaded Hotel Police were after them, and have offered to return purloined towels and ashtrays.

Hotel spokeswoman Sheila O’Brien reports: “That wasn’t our thinking at all.”
