PLACENTIA : Graffiti Removal Given More Funds

The City Council has approved spending an additional $24,000 to continue its graffiti removal program.
Council members last week voted 4 to 1 to spend the additional money as part of the Police Department’s stepped-up efforts to crack down on gangs in the city.
Last summer, the council awarded a $25,000 contract to Graffiti Removal Inc. to rid public rights of way of spray-painted messages every other week. The company either paints over the writing or sandblasts it.
In November, the Police Department asked city officials to remove the graffiti more often, and funds have since been depleted.
The city now spends an average of $4,100 a month to clean the graffiti, which is largely the result of rival gangs marking their turf, officials said.
