STATUS OF GOLF, SWIMMING TEAMS

If men’s golf is to continue at Cal State Long Beach, $34,000 must be raised by June 17, and $26,000 more by Feb. 1, 1992, according to Daniel Gooch, co-chairman of a committee that was formed to save the sport.

The Beach Charities annual celebrity golf tournament Tuesday at the Recreation Park course in Long Beach helped raise $5,400 for the 49er golf team, Gooch said.

CSULB Athletic Director Corey Johnson announced last month that men’s golf and tennis and men’s and women’s swimming would be eliminated because of a budget crisis.
