La Verne : Property Tax Payment Plan
The City Council wants to give a break to about 138 homeowners left off county property tax rolls by a computer glitch in the assessor’s office.
The council instructed city staff members to ask the assessor to collect the city’s share of the unpaid back taxes and assessments on the installment plan.
The back taxes and assessments will average several thousand dollars per household, La Verne Finance Officer Ron Clark said. Clark said the computer error affected about 10,000 purchasers of new homes countywide since 1988.
In La Verne, he said, most affected residents live in the Live Oak Reservoir area. Assistant City Manager Jeffrey Allred said the county already has offered an installment plan for its share.
