Just One Big Happy Posse
The new record industry word on the horizon, as Buzz learned at a recent party heralding a new album, is posse --as a much-needed replacement for the well-meaning but overused family. It refers to the musicians, roadies, technicians and video-makers who collectively produce music. As in: “We do it together, man, we’re a posse .”
Inviting Exhaustion
The Most Ambitious Invitation of the Year (so far) award goes to the volunteers at LIFE (Love is Feeding Everyone), the L.A.-based end-hunger group. It sent out a hand-cut and -pasted ransom note for its May 18 murder mystery dinner/roast/fund-raiser which reads: “If you are intrigued by murder mysteries don’t make plans for Saturday night May 18 1991. Enter this date in your calendar now! Await further instructions.”
“I come up with interesting ideas, and find out later how labor-intensive they are,” said Pam Maury, LIFE’s development associate, who added that volunteers trucked in loads of magazines and newspapers to cut out the words and letters for a whopping 30 individual invitations. “We started to do the same with the second one (a follow-up invitation) and we had made up 15 or 18, and then we just kind of ran out of steam, so we took the nicest one and copied it.”
Center Stagings
If you’re an inner-circle Music Center supporter there’s no telling what social engagements you’ll be invited to next. The center’s Board of Overseers (it’s involved with long-range planning) was recently offered these two events: “Andre Gregory (the actor/director) and Arianna Huffington (the author) will lead the group in a lively, stimulating conversation on such provocative subjects as our continuing quest for self-fulfillment and the mysteries behind the meaning of life.” After that is the “festive, black-tie dinner (where) honorary chairman (and really wealthy financier) David Murdock will read from a few of his favorite poems. . . .”
