Proposal to Hike State Sales Tax

In June we will mark the 13th anniversary of Proposition 13, only to be told that we voters are partly to blame for the current state deficit (“Seeds of State Deficit Were Sown Over Years,” news analysis by Douglas Shuit, front page, April 29). Of course, many other reasons are listed as the cause of the current deficit.
Since we elect legislators to legislate, I can only be very grateful that term limits (Proposition 140) passed last November. Most of our legislators have made a career out of their jobs--and, after 13 years, they have not learned how to legislate. It is best that we have a fresh outlook on the deficit problem.
