The Army’s Modernization

Opposite sides of the front page (April 20) had articles that, in one, extolled the high technology and superb competence of U.S. military performance and in the other reported our considerable underestimate of Iraq’s remaining weaponry and overestimate of damage actually done to the enemy (“Iraq Says It Has 11,131 chemical Warheads in Stock”).

What we know for sure is that our military showed great skill at pursuing a rapidly retreating army and at shooting soldiers who did not shoot back. What a bitter travesty the Gulf War now appears to have been.
