A Taste of Eastern Europe
As children and their families gather at Ventura’s Mission Park on Saturday for the Children’s Celebration of the Arts, many will have their first glance at Eastern European art and entertainment.
The theme for this year’s 10th anniversary celebration is “The Free Spirit of Art,” which will introduce festival-goers to the renaissance of artistic expression occurring in Eastern Europe.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., children and adults can enjoy such events as participatory dances and songs, design Ukrainian hats, and make foreign flags and Russian musical instruments.
Other events include live performances of Bulgarian music and dance, a Russian cymbal presentation performed by a children’s group, various arts and crafts workshops, and food booths.
A Tolstoy mini-play, presented by a children’s troupe, will be performed at 11:30 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Admission is free. Mission Park is by the Albinger Archaeological Museum, 113 E. Main St. For information, call 658-4737.
