Turner Broadcasting to Boost Spending: Turner Broadcasting System Inc. will boost spending by more than 50% this year, mostly for news, entertainment and sports programs. TBS plans cash outlays of $623 million, up from $409 million last year. The cable television company also disclosed that founder and President Ted Turner last year paid himself $879,603 in salary and benefits, a 30% boost from his 1989 pay of $675,000. The figures were reported in documents distributed to stockholders before the company’s June 7 annual meeting in Atlanta. Turner was listed as owning $1.1 billion in company shares.
