COLLEGE NOTES : Fullerton High’s D.C. Olsen to Play Baseball for Titans

Fullerton High School catcher D.C. Olsen, the Times’ Orange County player of the year in baseball last season, has signed a letter of intent with Cal State Fullerton, his father said Thursday.
Olsen, who was also a Times’ all-county linebacker in football, plans to play only baseball for the Titans, according to his father, Don Olsen.
In January, Olsen made an oral commitment with Louisiana State to play baseball and football but wasn’t offered a scholarship.
“I think in the long run baseball is going to be better for him,” Don Olsen said. “If he gets drafted, we’ll consider that, but at this point, he’s going to go to Cal State and it’s going to be exciting.”
In three seasons at Fullerton High, Olsen, 6 feet 1 and 220 pounds, has hit 25 home runs, breaking the county record shared by Andy Ruscito of Valencia (1984-86) and Lance Marks of Dana Hills (1988-90).
Last season, Olsen led the county in batting average (.595), home runs (13), runs batted in (39), doubles (13), runs (42) and hits (50).
Olsen also considered an offer from Cal State Long Beach.
