Woman Gets 2 Life Terms in Killing of Officer

A 20-year-old woman was sentenced Thursday to two consecutive life prison terms for her part in a shooting spree in which a Los Angeles police officer was killed. But the woman, Raylene Brooks, will be eligible for parole in less than 18 years, a prosecutor said.
Brooks was convicted last December on three attempted murder charges for a gang drive-by attack that injured three people. She was also found guilty of manslaughter in the killing of the police officer, Daniel Pratt, who responded to the shooting.
During her trial, Brooks admitted that she was in a car from which her boyfriend, Kirkton Moore, opened fire on Pratt and his partner on Sept. 3, 1988. Pratt’s partner shot back but the suspects escaped. The two lived in Las Vegas for two months until Moore, who is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole, surrendered.
