Re “The Two of Them” (April 21):
Unable to successfully challenge and defeat President Ronald Reagan in the polling booth, liberals, desperate for revenge, have apparently decided to do what they do best: character assassination.
Both authors, Lou Cannon and Kitty Kelley, and your reviewers, Sidney Blumenthal and Robert Sherrill respectively, are party to this reprehensible cabal.
Blumenthal: “Cannon’s motives and methods are unimpeachable.” Who says? Two men who regard Reagan’s intelligence as an “enigma”?
Sherrill: After smearing Nancy Reagan as promiscuous, unfaithful, greedy etc., Kelley, “to be fair . . . allows as how it may have all started with childhood insecurity.” What ? That constitutes fair?
Naw. What we’ve got here is a mad-dog syndrome: a lot of foaming at the mouth.
