TAKE A HIKE: A 9-mile hiking and equestrian trail stretching from Ortega Highway into the heart of the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness will soon join the county’s growing network of trails (see story in today’s OC Live!). . . . The most ambitious new Orange County trail project since the ‘30s, the Lucas Canyon Trail is the result of an eight-year venture involving the U.S. Forest Service and Sierra Club volunteers. Brush has been cleared and it is now possible to walk the whole route, says Kenneth S. Croker, lead volunteer and author of a popular trail guide to the Santa Ana Mountains.
