La Quinta’s Dawkins Signs to Play at USC

Walter Dawkins, a standout baseball player from La Quinta High School, signed a national letter of intent Sunday to attend USC, La Quinta Coach Dave Demarest said.
Dawkins, a Times All-County selection as an outfielder, hit .444 with nine home runs, stole 20 bases, and drove in 30 runs as a senior for the Aztecs. His nine home runs were a La Quinta single-season record.
He was also being recruited by Cal State Fullerton.
