A man known as “El Bomber” and suspected in two bombings in the Lincoln Park area was arrested Tuesday, police said. Steven Najera, 39, was taken into custody at a nearby residence about 2 p.m.
Officer Don Lawrence said that shortly after Najera’s arrest, he and investigators toured locations where Najera may have planted other bombs. Najera is suspected of planting an explosive device at Barbee and Keith streets on July 3. Six days later, he allegedly planted a bomb in a manhole near Lincoln Park.
Police closed in on Najera after finding out that he was arrested in 1981 for throwing a bomb into a downtown restaurant. Najera has a tattoo of an exploding building on his back and another one of a TNT box on his left arm.
