The Tustin White Sox kept their Colt World Series hopes alive Friday by defeating San Ramon Valley, 5-1, in the Colt West Zone Tournament at Washington Park in Santa Clara.
Luis Estrella of Saddleback High School pitched a five-hitter for the White Sox, and Derek Baker of Tustin High had two hits and three RBIs in the elimination-round game.
Baker had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run double off the center-field fence in the sixth inning.
Redondo Beach knocked Tustin into the losers’ bracket Thursday with a 10-8 victory in eight innings. The White Sox play the winner of the Santa Clara-Park City game this morning, and could advance to the losers’ bracket finals this evening.
The tournament ends Sunday, with the winner representing the zone in the Colt World Series next week at Purdue University.
