Guns and Gang Violence
Steve Marshall (letter, July 23) knows just as little as anyone else about the nation’s gang violence problem. He finds law-abiding gun owners and the National Rifle Assn. a popular scapegoat. Any thinking person can plainly see that the problem is deeper and cannot be cured by putting additional restrictions on firearms purchases.
To put it simply, the drugs most of the gangs are fighting over are illegal. Despite our spending billions of tax dollars to enforce these laws, the drugs are still available. Therefore, increased gun restrictions will only help increase the firearms black market and give the gangbangers something else to fight over.
The anti-gun schemers would also like us to believe that additional gun restrictions would not cost the taxpayers any money.
