A new Park-and-Ride lot in Encinitas has opened for car-poolers and as an express bus stop to downtown San Diego.
The 26-space lot has been donated for use during during business hours by the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, said Jeanene Cilch, spokeswoman for Commuter Computer, San Diego’s ride-sharing agency. The lot, at 170 Calle Magdalena near the intersection of Interstate 5 and Encinitas Boulevard, will be open 6 a.m-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The church’s decision to provide the spaces is the result of the congregation’s involvement with Earth Day 1991 and a commitment to better the environment, Cilch said.
The lot brings to 53 the number of free parking lots available to car-poolers throughout the county, Cilch said. Park-and-Ride lots offer car-poolers a place to meet other than their homes.
Commuters looking for someone with whom to ride-share can call 237-POOL to register with the Commuter Computer, which matches people who live and work in the same area.
