RENAULT CHECK-UP

How surprising that an author as capable as Robert Lipsyte came so late in life to Mary Renault. Equally surprising is his judgment (July 14) that her “The King Must Die” is “perhaps her best,” when he obviously hasn’t read all her work.
May I suggest he read the sequel about Theseus, “The Bull From the Sea.” Those of us who have loved Renault all these many years consider the two together as incomparable works of Greek mythology.
Grateful thanks to the Book Review for reminding us that Mary Renault should be read and re-read by everyone who loves literature.
