Pitfalls of Selling Own Home
As a full-time realtor, I can attest to the fact that the average “For Sale by Owner” cannot successfully sell his home. In most cases, they list with a realtor and sell it that way. Unlike the rare case such as that of writer Katherine Jakowich (Letters, July 28), less than 10% of all FSBOs can persist long enough to secure and close a buyer.
Her premise that the “escrow company does the real work, not the agent” is not based on case facts. I know from dozens of escrows--the agents do a lot of the work in making an escrow close. Buyers and sellers need constant reminding, prodding, help, assistance and resources provided by their agents to get the job done in a timely manner.
