Kit Paves Way for 1st-Time Buyers

“Affording Your First Home,” a 12-page kit detailing costs and procedures of buying a home, is available at $3 from HSH Associates, Dept. FTB, 1200 Route 23, Butler, N.J. 07405.

The kit includes a point-by-point review of the fees home buyers face, a work sheet for figuring out how much of a mortgage buyers can handle and an amortization table for determining monthly payments.

The kit was prepared for first-time buyers because they are often not sure if they can afford a home, according to Keith T. Gumbinger, media coordinator of HSH Associates, one of the nation’s largest publishers of mortgage market information.

“First-time buyers are the key to the housing market,” he said, “but the home-buying market takes some time to learn, and in today’s market, that time can be costly.”
