GOOD READS

As a typical Sunday paper reader, I usually leaf through L.A. Times Magazine. To say I was caught by the first page of your “Proper Care and Maintenance” (by Susan Straight, Summer Fiction Issue, June 30) is an understatement! I couldn’t put it down until I had read it over--twice. I enjoyed it doubly the second time.
I just couldn’t resist writing to tell you how much I enjoyed the writing. Although some of the black slang was not too clear to me, a white senior citizen, I loved the story.
