In the article “Pots o’ Green” (Style, June 30), you refer to the house plant “wandering Jew.” I find the common name of the plant offensive.
I have no idea how these plants received their appellation, and I am fully aware that it is in common and universal usage. In view of its origin, it is ugly, harmful and anti-Semitic. It merely supports the fact that prejudice against Jews runs deep throughout the world in even the most mundane matters, which makes it even more invidious.
