An Oxnard boy was hospitalized in fair condition Sunday after being ejected from a car that blew a tire on the Ventura Freeway, rolled down an embankment and burst into flames, sparking a roadside brush fire, authorities said. Dionicio Duran, 7, was admitted to Ventura County Medical Center Sunday night for a broken leg and other possible injuries stemming from the 12:50 p.m. crash off the southbound freeway near Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks.
The driver, Jorge Banuelos, 25, of Oxnard also was ejected from the 1960 Ford Fairlane just before it caught fire. Authorities said Banuelos appeared to suffer only moderate cuts and bruises. He was being kept for observation at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks Sunday evening.
Firefighters contained the brush fire within a one-acre area and extinguished it within an hour, authorities said.
