A state legislators’ task force recommended that states slowly ease economic sanctions if South Africa continues moving away from apartheid. “We suggested that the sanctions be maintained at this time because we don’t think the abolishment of apartheid is irreversible,” said Texas Rep. Wilhelmina Delco, chairwoman of the South Africa Task Force of the National Conference of State Legislatures, which is meeting in Orlando, Fla. “But we recognize there have been many changes, and we want to reach some kind of compromise,” Delco said.
