Donations of Sneakers Sought
Think a minute about how great it feels to put on your sneakers when your feet are weary.
As I read the Times article “Helping Hands,” describing the work Bob Sauzo is doing with the homeless in the Silver Lake area, the sentence describing his need for shoes to give to his people leaped out at me. I couldn’t help but wonder how many perfectly good tennis shoes lie dormant in the closets of Glendale alone.
I write this with some trepidation, not knowing what it will unleash. But here’s my offer. If any of you who read this will check your closets, pull out those lonely sneakers that are not being used but are still in good condition and drop them off in the box on the front porch of our home at 610 W. Broadway in Glendale, I will agree to rejuvenate them if necessary and personally deliver them to Bob so he can distribute them to his homeless visitors.
Please do me a favor by being discriminating about what you bring.
