IRVINE : 3 More File to Run for School Board
- Share via
Three residents took advantage of an extended deadline this week to file as school board candidates for the November election.
The newest candidates are Genovica Niculescu-Balteanu, 60, a mechanical engineer and unsuccessful candidate in the 1989 election; William P. Long, 33, a John Wayne Airport operations coordinator; and George M. Gallagher, 30, a research scientist. There are three open seats on the Irvine Unified School District Board of Trustees.
The filing period was extended from Aug. 9 because two-term school board member Helen T. Cameron decided not to run for reelection. When an incumbent does not run, the filing period is extended by five days, under state law.
The three new candidates will join five others running in the Nov. 5 school board race. Incumbents Michael B. Regele, 39, and Mary Ellen Hadley, 47, filed earlier, as did Thomas J. Burnham, 37, a human resources consultant; William M. Dunkelberger, 38, a salesman, and Annita A. Sharpe, 31, an advertising agency manager.
