CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : LOMPOC : Movement of Cuban Prisoners Restricted
- Share via
More than 160 Cuban inmates at Lompoc Federal Penitentiary were placed under heightened restrictions Friday as a cautionary measure in response to hostage-taking by Cubans in an Alabama prison, authorities said. The 168 inmates were placed under a lock-down and their movements in the prison will be restricted until the hostage situation at the Talladega Federal Correctional Institution in Alabama is resolved. Cuban inmates at Talladega, apparently armed with knifelike weapons, were holding 10 prison workers hostage under a threat of bloodshed to avoid being deported to their homeland.
