National Semiconductor Continues Layoffs: National Semiconductor Corp., which has announced that it will take a restructuring charge of nearly $150 million, said late last week that it also plans to lay off several hundred employees and close a plant in January. The company laid off nearly 200 workers at its computer and communications operations in Santa Clara last week. National also laid off about 100 workers in its Israel plant, spokeswoman Mary Coady said. Another 100 will lose jobs when the company’s Santa Clara diode manufacturing plant closes in January, she said.
