NEWPORT BEACH : Raises Approved for Substitute Teachers
- Share via
Slightly higher salaries for substitute teachers in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District were approved unanimously by the school board at its first meeting of the school year.
Daily pay for substitutes was raised from $75 to $80. Wages for substitutes who teach 16 consecutive days or more were raised from $85 to $90 a day.
The district’s rates are now comparable to those in other county districts, which pay $80 to $90 a day for per-diem teachers, and up to $100 a day for long-term substitutes.
District officials, who voted Tuesday, said they do not need substitutes now in the district, but they anticipate needing teachers later in the year.
