Newport Harbor pulled out a 13-10 nonleague victory over Orange at Newport Harbor High School, but it came at a price.
The Sailors’ quarterback, Mike Ofer, left the game with a collarbone injury in the fourth quarter and is expected to miss about six weeks.
With Orange leading, 10-7, with 1 minute 15 seconds left in the game, Brandon Finney’s nine-yard run gave Newport Harbor a 13-10 lead.
Newport Harbor coach, Jeff Brinkley said he would miss Ofer.
“He works hard all during the off-season, and then this happens to him early on,” Brinkley said.
Junior Gregg Williams replaced Ofer.
“Gregg came in and did a good job, but I feel worse for Mike,” Brinkley said. “He’s going to miss half the season.”
