Agency Files $914-Million Claim Against Pan Am: The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. is seeking $914 million in claims against Pan American World Airways as part of an expanded plan to take over the carrier’s three under-funded pension funds. In a claim filed with a federal bankruptcy court in New York, the PBGC included a retirement fund for 2,300 pilots that had not been part of the agency’s original takeover proposal in July. The takeover of the bankrupt carrier’s retirement plans would be the largest federal pension fund bailout.
