The body of an unidentified man was found in the Santa Ana River on Sunday afternoon, police said.
Two men walking on the Main Street bridge near Owens Drive told police they saw a body from the overpass shortly after 12:30 p.m. Santa Ana police said the man, whose body was found in a part of the dry riverbed where homeless people frequently stay, apparently was killed near the bridge and then dragged through the brush to the edge of the riverbed.
Sgt. Gary Bruce said that the cause of death has not yet been determined but that the victim apparently suffered major facial and neck injuries. About half of the body had been covered with brush and logs.
Bruce said the body was probably there for no longer than a day.
