ORANGE : City OKs Purchase of New Firetruck

The purchase of a new firetruck with a price tag of more than $250,000 has been approved by the City Council.
The triple-combination rig, with its own water supply, hoses and ladders, will cost the city $259,925, said John French, director of General Services. The truck should join the Fire Department’s fleet of 10 other pumpers within a year.
The purchase is paid by the city’s replacement-vehicle fund. French said firetrucks are among the costliest vehicles the city buys--street sweepers run up to $165,000 and garbage trucks range from $60,00 to $90,000.
Triple-combination firetrucks have a life span of about 20 years. The new vehicle will send one of the city’s older firetrucks either to the auction block or into semi-retirement as a reserve truck.
