Plane Crash Victim Identified as Orange County Man, 34

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — The pilot killed in the weekend crash of his small plane near here was identified Sunday as an Orange County man, 34-year-old Darrell Dwayne Thom of Westminster, the El Dorado County coroner’s office reported.
Four passengers were injured Saturday and hospitalized after the Piper Cherokee Warrior crashed during takeoff from the Swansboro Airport about five miles north of Placerville.
The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers Randy Thom, 31, of Westminster; Doug Ostercamp, 30, of Swansboro, and his son Doug Jr., 5, were at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, and passenger Marshall Racine, 38, of Swansboro, was at Marshall Hospital in Placerville. All were in stable condition with various cuts or fractures.
