In response to your editorial “Out of Work, Out of Benefits” (Sept. 18): The Times joins the popular concept--if there is anything wrong, look to the government for help.
Perhaps if you kept reminding your readers that there are over 250,000 auto workers now unemployed, our steel industry is labeled “the rust belt,” support industries like tires, glass and accessories are depressed, then some thought would be given to buy American.
The American purchasing power is the greatest on Earth, but it is seriously diluted by buying imports. Wouldn’t The Times perform a national service by reminding the public of this?
