Two varsity football players at Rancho Buena Vista High School were among five Vista juveniles arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the burglary of a San Clemente surf shop, Lt. Paul Falk of the San Clemente Police Department said Monday.
The five teen-agers were arrested a few blocks from the scene of the break-in of BC Surfing Designs, 222 N. El Camino Real, Falk confirmed. The police had dispatched information about the break-in about the same time the arresting officers noticed clothes overflowing from the trunk of a passing blue car on North El Camino Real.
The minors, whose names were not released, were booked on suspicion of commercial burglary and transferred to Orange County Juvenile Hall.
Police said store damage was estimated at $2,500 and that $2,500 worth of merchandise had been taken.
Craig Bell, Rancho Buena Vista football coach, declined comment.
