CBS Delays Earnings Statement: CBS Inc. said it would delay the release of its third-quarter earnings until it had re-evaluated carrying costs associated with its $1.06-billion, four-year baseball contract. Ratings for CBS coverage of the opening game of the American League Championship Series between the Minnesota Twins and the Toronto Blue Jays were the lowest ever recorded in prime time. Last year, CBS took a $55-million write-down and set aside another $115 million in anticipation of future losses over the remaining three years of the baseball contract.
