A 21-year-old man from Tujunga was caught in a boat propeller during a water-skiing accident at Lake Piru on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Two groups in separate boats were water-skiing on the lake about 3:10 p.m. when a person from the first boat fell in the water, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Paul Anderson said.
Moments later, Eric Capassa, in the second boat, also fell into the water.
After the driver of the first boat plucked the first person from the water, “he cranked up his motor, not knowing that (Capassa) had fallen in the water and was nearby,” Anderson said.
He said Capassa was run over by the boat and caught by the propeller.
Capassa was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he is in serious condition from several deep cuts, a nursing supervisor said.
