Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari’s administration has vowed to make profound changes in virtually every sphere of his country’s life, from reforming politics to opening the economy through steps such as the proposed North American free-trade accord.
Midway through Salinas’ six-year term, a special issue of World Report next week will assess both the progress and the promise of the modernization program.
Included in this special section will be the results of an extensive Los Angeles Times Poll based on face-to-face interviews with more than 1,500 adults in Mexico.
