El Monte : Transportation Plan OKd

The City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to participate in the formation of a 30-year plan to improve transportation throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
The project will cost the city more than $5,000, which will be paid for by Proposition A funds earmarked for transportation improvements. The cost may be less if more cities in the area participate, City Atty. David F. Gondek said.
Coordinators of the project say they are seeking to unite 31 local communities and create a unified voice in the region that will influence allocation of transportation funds in the future. The primary short-term goal of the group will be to secure funding for light rail and commuter rail in the area, Gondek said.
