Glassell Park : Youth Arrested in Slaying

A 17-year-old Hollywood youth has been arrested in a gang-related stabbing death that occurred in an alley just south of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Area station in Glassell Park.
Detective Loren Zimmerman said the slaying took place Oct. 5 after officers rounded up eight gang members who were causing a disturbance at a fast-food restaurant. When the youths were released, they exchanged signs and slogans with members of a rival gang who were driving past the station on their way to a gang member’s wake at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, he said.
Candido Quinones, 15, of Atwater Village, one of the gang members who challenged the passing mourners, was chased into the alley and fatally stabbed, Zimmerman said.
On Monday, officers arrested a teen-ager on suspicion of murdering Quinones. The suspect’s name was withheld because he is a juvenile.
