Long Beach : Chamber President Resigns; Study of His Role to Begin

Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President John Higginson has announced that he will resign as of Nov. 15, and officials said a task force has been appointed to analyze the chamber’s administration before choosing a successor.

Higginson said he decided to leave the post after two years to devote more time to other community activities and less time-consuming ventures.

Robert Creighton, retired assistant city manager, will serve as acting president while the chamber decides its next move, officials said.

“Due to the growth and the evolving role of the chamber in the business community, the scope of the position has broadened and is crucial to the continuing chamber success,” spokeswoman Jane Netherton said. “A task force is therefore being established to evaluate the current administrative structure prior to further action.”
