Gun Safety Bill
My son David lives in a wheelchair and has for one year now. David is 12. David was the victim of an ill-kept handgun and as a result of gunplay by his stepbrother, David is paralyzed. On Oct. 13, Gov. Pete Wilson signed into law a gun safety program that can and will help keep other children from being confined to a life of disability or even worse, being killed.
Wilson should be applauded for his courage and wisdom in signing this bill. It took courage because many of influence in Sacramento did not have our governor’s wisdom. I thank him. Perhaps David is not confined to a chair for no reason. David and I have worked for the passage of this bill and now we have a law. In signing AB 618 Wilson has shown that he cares about the children of California and he is a man of courage and foresight. I thank him as a mother and as a citizen. Truly, in the matter of gun safety, Wilson is a man for the people.
